Response to "The Circuit"

People should never run from hope but in the short story, “The Circuit”, Panchito, the young main character, does exactly that. For some people, hope is all they have and the characters in the story need hope the most but every time it comes calling, they hide from it. Panchito needs to run towards hope not from it because that is the only thing that can make him rise above his father’s and past family’s poor lifesytles.
Panchito is not a regular kid because of his family’s huge poverty issues. These problems are very realistic and have been with people in the past, present and will be with them in the future. Money is a huge part of a person’s life, even a child’s, and can make people feel like they’re encased in a box that shrinks and shrinks as money gets lower and lower. But there is always hope in a world of hopelessness. Panchito has the chance to get an education and every time that chance come, he runs as if this hope is a terrible evil, but you can’t edge very far away from hope. When Panchito finally finds the good in hope, he makes a mistake. He finds himself in this beautiful , mesmerizing life and he takes advantage of it. He looks at this life as if it’s the most beautiful rose he’s ever seen but after a while he gets lost in its sweet scent and he’s forced back into reality. As he comes to reality, it seems like a rug is ripped from beneath him and he is left there on the ground, hopeless. Life to him is a constant circuit and seems inescapable and he only hopes for that wonderful hope back to lift him up and above with endless possibilities and a chance at a better life.
No one can live without hope but Panchito is trying to go against it and when he gives in and goes to hope, he gets sucked in too far and makes it hard for him to take reality. But isn’t it true that with every mistake, comes something good? Panchito learned a huge life lesson that is really important. Don’t take advantage of hope and don’t get too far from reality otherwise when that hope is gone, reality is always there to hit you hard in the face.

  1. Wow! That was really good. On a scale from 1 to 10 I would say it's a definite 10. I really liked all the metaphors in their. That was really cool.
