Growing up is something that everyone goes through; adolescence is something no one can prevent. The main character, Francie, is growing up from Innocence to Experience and with the challenges that that brings. As Francie grows older she gets more experienced and starts to understand things that happen in Brooklyn and what is truly bad and truly good.
Some people try to run away from adolescences but that is impossible; it is something that has to happen in life no matter what. As you go through adolescence, children begin to finally understand the world around them. When Francie gets herself and Neeley vaccinated in order to go to school, she understands that what the doctors says to the nurse is insensible and very judgmental about how she lives. She understands that her people are different from the people of the doctor and that they look down upon her and her brother. The author also tries to tell the reader that people may seem evil but they really are just players of an evil game. They have to do whatever it takes to survive in the complicated, damaging world. As Francie grows she begins to understand how foolish Johnny is to put his trust in a corrupt politician and that Katie is right about learning to trust only yourself. Katie is trying to push back against the male dominant world and she is trying to teach Francie that it is wrong that women can’t vote and Francie eventually begins to comprehend what Katie is saying.
Adolescence is a huge part of becoming an experienced adult because the child learns so much about the world in that part of their life. Horrifying things may come from that part of someone’s life but life is full of cruel, horrible things and although that is true, the good moments in life, and even if there is few, make up for all those awful times and helps you forget if only for a short time.
I think that that was a very well written essay. One of the crutial part was that you sounded like an adult which is always what you want to strive for. It is always important to sound like an adult because then people usually listen to you longer. I think you also did a nice job on saying what the topic you could say is. I liked how you explained what Francie has already been through and what the book to you about her. I think that the only thing that you could change is that usually you don't refer to the book like saying that the book said this but otherwise, really good written essay. I liked the voice too. Very powerful.
